Morgan Wallen Returns 7/2

Top 5: Wasted On You

This week Morgan Wallen makes a return visit as Lon’s co-host.  Morgan just kicked off the amphitheater leg of his Dangerous tour: “My crowds have always been super-duper active and engaged. They’ve just gotten bigger. So they have the same energy, but they’ve just multiplied.”

The change in venues means Morgan has been able to spend more time in some cities: “Our first amphitheater was in Charlotte.  We got there Monday, and I had three days in Charlotte to play golf and see things.  I did the same thing in Denver, and played golf in a couple places.”

Morgan sings with Ernest on “Flower Shops.”  But Morgan has known Ernest since they were in high school, playing baseball against each other: “I remember my junior year, I was the instigator for my team, and Ernest’s dad was the head coach for his school, and I made his dad upset. I was mocking him to fire up my team. We won the state championship that year, and Ernest’s team won the championship the next year.”

Where did the attitude at an early age come from? “I was good at baseball in high school.  I never had to try, which was a gift and a curse.  I realized it too late, but I don’t know where that attitude came from.  I was the spark plug on my team.  I brought that energy.  I’ve always been on go”

So jumping ahead 12 years, does that experience affect how you are now? Yes it does. I learned a lesson, because I was gifted to sing too.  I think that put a fire in me.  I just want to be good at what I do. I don’t want to look back as I do with baseball and be like I could have been better.  I don’t want to do that twice in my life.”

Morgan also has great stories this week about Luke Combs, Hardy, Eric Church, Keith Urban, Ernest, and Tyler Hubbard formerly of Florida Georgia Line.

NEXT WEEK: Tim McGraw
