CMA’s Entertainer of the Year

This week’s co-host is the CMA Entertainer of the Year Luke Combs.  “It sounds even cooler hearing YOU say it!”  The big news is Luke & his wife are expecting a baby boy: “I’m thrilled, and ready, I think we’re ready now to meet him. I think we have a name picked out, but we’re not saying yet.”  Did you have a gender reveal? “We did, but it was just the immediate family.  I thought it was gonna be a girl.  Nicole thought it was gonna be a boy, so she was right.”

When Miranda Lambert was Lon’s co-host, she told him she’d just written a song with Luke, but she wouldn’t say anything more about it.  So Lon played that audio for Luke, and he didn’t say much more: “I have the same answers she had.  But we got to write together, and there were lots of opportunities during covid. It was a super bucket list thing for me to get to do.”

Luke just announced a stadium tour starting in a few weeks: “Yeah, this summer, doin’ four, getting the feet wet, seein’ what we got to work with, nervous about it, but ready for it too.”

Eric Church was Lon’s co-host a few weeks ago, and told Lon this story about Luke: “Luke Combs was with me at the Carolina game. He tagged along!  I had my family, I had my kids, and then Luke called me at the last minute, ‘I have three friends, can I go?’  I said, ‘Yeah, come on!’ So we took Luke with us.”  Hearing that, Luke said, “True story! It was awesome, fun time, that was a heck of a night.  I only went to the Saturday game because I had something else on Monday.  But it was a great game”

Lon then asked Luke what he would have done if he was in the same position? “It’s a tough decision.  Would I make the same decision? I don’t know.  Because I’ve never been put in that situation. But I commend his honesty.  The guy does more for his fans than anyone in the industry. He was honest, and is doing a make-up show. I think he had every right.  To have that moment with your kids is something people can’t take lightly.”
