Lee Brice Co-Hosts 10/2

Lon’s co-host this week is Lee Brice.  He’s back in the Top 5 with “Memory I Don’t Mess With.”  But this past year, he collected ACM and CMA Awards for his duet with Carly Pearce.  He told Lon, “It’s been a good year as far as music and radio.  But it’s nice to be back on the road, seeing those smiling faces.”

Last November, Lee was scheduled to sing the duet with Carly on the CMA Awards, and he tested positive for Covid-19.  Lon asked him what it was like to watch the show on TV, knowing he was supposed to be there: “That was the moment when I got sad.  I wished that was me up there.  But I was thankful that Charles Kelly was able to step in for me.  It’s not an easy song to sing.  I felt bad, but it was one of those things.”

Lee sings on the title track of the new album by Michael Ray.  The song also features Kid Rock and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. “Billy is the epitome of a rock star.  Even Kid Rock will stay out of his way.  Billy Gibbons is the real rock star.  Sitting there with Billy, just the knowledge and wisdom is amazing.  He doesn’t talk a lot, but we hung out all day, played pool, and it was a great day.”

In fact Lee says he’s become good friends with Kid Rock.  He told this story. “I was writing with Kid Rock at his home studio, and he called up Jon Pardi.  So Jon came over, and the whiskey started flowing.  I think we partied for a couple days.  It was pretty late.  I enjoyed getting to hang out with him.  We had a ball, obviously.”

While he wasn’t able to tour in 2020, Lee said he was able to spend more time with his three kids. “You think you know your kids, and then you spend 24 hours a day with them 7 days a week!  They all getting older.  My daughter is 4, my son is 8, and my oldest son just turned 13.  He wants to play all sports.  He does soccer, track, and football.  Now he wants to wrestle.  I feel sorry for these kids he’s going to wrestle because he’s so strong.”

This week’s #1 is by Lainey Wilson.  It’s her first #1, so Lon & Lee gave her a call: “It’s been a big week for me!  It’s wild.  So many people tried to tell me what it was going to feel like, and I couldn’t imagine it.  I’m on cloud 9.”  Where were you when you got the news?  “I was in Los Angeles.  I’m still here now.  I had a few people texting me.  Tracy Lawrence even sent me flowers.  That’s when it really started to sink in.”
